Our Exhibition season has started with a huge success at Ecobuild, where we had more than 500 visitors to our Stand over the three days of the Show, most of the interest being on our Sola-boost systems and the emergence of our Sola-cool systems that supplement our Windcatcher natural ventilation arrangement.

This is the second year for Ecobuild, last year it was just a 2-day Show and this year a 3-day Show, and it was still non-stop on Wednesday until 7.30pm!

Everyone seems to be genuinely concerned about the remarkable rise in daytime temperatures and many look forward with some trepidation to this summer and what it may bring!  Our Windcatcher Sola-boost systems have proved a great success since they were launched last April and indeed, many people know that we had the distinction of winning the “Best Building Services Product of the Year” at the International Building Show – Interbuild at the NEC.  Our Sola-boost design has now been extended to our smaller ABS units, many of which have been installed to Building Society Offices, Banks, Doctors’ Surgeries, etc., where they are always looking for a high level of security (which the Windcatcher system provides) but also an energy free, eco-friendly ventilation unit.  The Monovents operate with all the intrinsic advantages of the Windcatcher system but in the summer during daytime, the solar driven fan doubles the rate of natural ventilation.  No doubt 2007 is going to be a busy year!

Monodraught Launch their New Flexible SunPipe

Flexible SunPipe System

Due to overwhelming demand from our customers, Monodraught are now launching a flexible SunPipe – but with a difference!

The Monodraught flexible SunPipe will be a twin skin fibreglass reinforced insulated material with a tough outer PVC coating but with an internal surface of metalised polyester bonded to a reinforced aluminium base, which incorporates a super reflective UV resistant laminate. The flexible SunPipe incorporates a spring steel wire framework, which holds the flexible pipe in a rigid position as soon as it is pulled tight. The tough outer coating will prevent any accidental tearing or damage, which other flexible lightpipes are prone to, and by being insulated twin skin, Monodraught offer a superb quality product. The duct is fully compliant with British Standards and has full fire test certification to BS476, parts 6,7 and 20.

The advantage of the flexible lightpipe concept has undoubtedly been the ease of fixing and installation within the roof space and the resultant lower cost. The Monodraught flexible SunPipe, however, will not only incorporate this ease of installation but the complete system will also have all the advantages of Monodraught’s patented Diamond dome and indeed, patented ABS universal flashing. Furthermore, the new system will incorporate a 500mm length of the normal SunPipe tube. It is this initial half metre length that is so vital to the high level performance of the SunPipe, since together with the patented Diamond dome, which has the special light catching prisms, the amount of light encapsulated by the Monodraught SunPipe arrangement is far superior to any other type of flexible lightpipe system.

Monodraught will also incorporate their popular range of ceiling diffusers and finishes but this new flexible SunPipe will also incorporate a short rigid length from ceiling level to provide ease of fixing and improved performance as compared to any other flexible type. It is a bit like flying an aeroplane! The tricky bit is the beginning and the end, it is the bit in the middle that is so easy!

Everyone in the building trade has accepted that the traditional SunPipe provides far more light transmittance than any other type, indeed up to 10 times more than a flexible version, but it cannot be denied that this superior performance costs more!

A new price list is being produced by Monodraught, which greatly reduces the price of the rigid SunPipe arrangement but each flexible SunPipe comes with a 2.5m standard length to suit just about every application up to 3m. A simple fixing method for components is included and the SunPipe length can easily be cut to length.

Flexible SunPipes will be ready for immediate delivery by the middle of February and further details can be obtained from Monodraught’s Technical or Sales Department.
